The company is managed by Charles J. Voorhis. Certified as a professional planner and an environmental professional, Mr. Voorhis brings over 25 years of experience to the firm. Educational background includes an undergraduate degree in environmental geology and a graduate degree in environmental engineering with specialization in water resource management. Mr. Voorhis is a leader in environmental planning and analysis in the Long Island community, having been employed by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services as an Environmentalist and a Public Health Sanitarian, and the Town of Brookhaven as the Director of Environmental Protection. For nine (9) years, Mr. Voorhis was a principal in charge of his own firm, Charles Voorhis & Associates which specialized in environmental impact statements (EIS's), real estate environmental site assessments (ESA's) and planning services. Mr. Voorhis developed a number of copyright protected computer models for environmental analysis in the areas of: wildlife and ecology; water budget analysis and groundwater impacts; economic and market analysis; and stormwater impact prediction. Expertise in applied use of the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) provides Mr. Voorhis with a valuable understanding of the practical and legal use of this law from both the private and municipal perspective. Staffing includes environmental professionals assembled to work together as a team with complementary expertise and interests. All of the employees of Nelson, Pope & Voorhis are capable as project managers and environmental analysts and specialized staff members include our ecologist, hydro geologist, GIS Specialists, as well as certified environmental professionals, inspectors and planners. NP&V staff maintain wildlife collection permits in New York State, and are active contributors to the Long Island Geographic Information System user group meetings and publications.

NP&V provides municipal consulting services to the Town of Hempstead, Village of Hempstead, Suffolk County government and the Towns of Southold, Southampton, Brookhaven and Islip, as well as the Villages of Port Jefferson, Roslyn Estates, Poquott and several other villages, involving planning studies, project engineering and environmental review, municipal marina wetland permit, design and construction, stormwater inventory, prioritization and mitigation, and water protection strategies. NP&V also performs Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) for Suffolk County and a number of municipalities for property acquisitions and purchase of development rights projects. NP&V is proficient in the use of the ArcView Geographic Information System (GIS), and currently have license agreements for shared GIS data with Suffolk County and the Towns of Southold, Southampton, Brookhaven and Islip.

Engineering services include: traffic impact study and review, drainage design and subdivision/site plan design and review, as well as in-house capabilities in sanitary engineering, and survey. As a result, we are uniquely qualified to private and municipal clients with project initiation and implementation.
